Mercury Falls update

Books, Humor No Comments »

It seems to be taking me forever to read this book, not beccover_100x151ause it’s long or a hard read, but because I have had so many other distractions. I am, however, just over halfway through and finding it hilarious. I have actually found myself laughing out loud.

If you have yet to buy this book I suggest you head on over to Amazon.com and get yourself a copy (book, kindle, other formats available). Rob Kroese (author) has just lowered the price to an amazing $1.99 over at Smashwords!!

You can find out more about this amazing book over at the Mercury Falls website, there you can connect with the author via Goodreads, Facebook and Twitter. You can become one of the many fans of Mercury Falls on Facebook (it has it’s own page!).

And finally, last Sunday (11/15/09) Rob was on Good Day Sacrament0 being interviewed about his book. You can watch the interview on the Mercury Falls site as well as his blog Mattress Police (where he started out).

Oh! And he’s been doing blog tours, they’re almost at an end though. You can read all about them at the Mattress Police blog.

Mercury Falls

I just received my copy of Mercury Falls by Rob Kroese, the same guy that authored the site mattresspolice.com (funny site!). I haven’t been able to sit down and put in some quality reading time yet, but what I have read is pretty funny.

If you’d like your own copy head on over to Amazon.com, Mercury Falls is available in paperback and on Kindle. And I’ve heard whispers about a PDF version coming available.

I’ll be giving a complete review of Mercury Falls and possibly an interview with the author. Stay tuned!

Broken (cont’d)

Books, Etc. No Comments »

So, yesterday I posted about the book Broken by Daniel Clay. Silly me, I didn’t really say what the book was about. And really, it’s hard for me to describe.

There are three stories going on and they all interconnect. The little girl that narrates the stories is in a coma and through these three stories you find out how she comes to be in this coma.

You really need to read the blurb on the back of the book or just read the book to understand.

Broken

Since we’ve had no internet or tv for two weeks now, we’ve been going to the library and using their Wifi on Sunday. This isn’t so bad, except that we share the laptop. All the library computers are full up by the time we get there.
We arrive at 2pm, when they open, and the place is already packed with people. You’d think they had been waiting there since the night before.

We picked an empty area where we wouldn’t be bothered by hoodlums (yes, they frequent the library), little unruly kids or annoying adults. That lasted about 5 minutes. A little kid showed up, sat across from us but didn’t make a sound. Then, some guy sat right behind me and began to snort. You know, that kind of snort where he could blow his damned nose if he weren’t so freakin’ lazy but he won’t because that would require him moving his arse from his chair. It was like sitting next to my ex.

While my kid was checking her email/myspace/facebook and all the other wonderful sites she goes to. I decided I couldn’t just sit there and listen to Mr. Snort-miester, so I headed to the ‘New’ books section to see if they had anything worth a read.broken

While perusing the shelves I came across Broken by Daniel Clay. With a title like that, it begs a second look. The summary on the back didn’t tell me much, but I figured what the hell, the little girls shoes and socks on the front were cute. Not the best way to pick a book.

I went and sat down next to my kid and dove in. I was truly hoping this would distract me from the boredom of waiting my turn on the laptop and Mr. Snort-miester trying my patience.

Before I knew it I was twenty-some pages in and it was my turn for the laptop. I was completely engrossed in this book and really didn’t want to put it down.

Anyway… I just finished it last night. I would have finished sooner but life got in the way, funny how that happens.

I do recommend this book. It’s one of those that you just can’t put down, and those are few and far between. Seriously, get off yer arse, get to the library or bookstore and get the book.

NOW!
